La película de Jane Campion producida por Netflix y la épica de ciencia ficción de Denis Villeneuve están entre las películas con más candidaturas: 12 para “El poder del perro” y 10 para “Dune”. El corto chileno Bestia en tanto está nominado como Mejor Corto Animado.
Es primera vez que una misma mujer ha sido dos veces nominada a los premios Oscar como Mejor Directora. Jane Campion, que en 1994 fue nominada por “La lección de piano” y ahora es la directora de la hermosa película de Netflix “El poder del Perro”, está haciendo, de nuevo, historia en los Premios de la Academia con su desconstrucción del western que ya obtuvo el León de Plata a la Mejor Dirección en el pasado Festival de Venecia.
Mezclando lo mejor del mundo cinéfilo del director John Ford y la grandilocuencia para mostrar los paisajes de las películas de vaqueros, más la sensibilidad propia de un registro de mágica intimidad, “El poder del Perro” lidera las nominaciones de este año no solo en las principales categorías como Mejor Película y Mejor Director y Mejor Actor, sino que también en los apartados más técnicos como Mejor Fotografía, Mejor Guion Adaptado y Mejor Banda Sonora, entre otros.
“El poder del Perro” sigue al carismático ranchero Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch), quienes inspira temor y asombro en quienes lo rodean. Cuando su hermano trae a casa una nueva esposa y su hijo, Phil los atormenta hasta que se ve expuesto a la posibilidad del amor.
LA AVENTURA ESPACIAL DE “DUNE”
No era una sorpresa, “Dune” ya había sido alabada por sus méritos artísticos y técnicos. Pero sus 10 nominaciones no dejan de ser una agradable sorpresa que demuestra el logro del director Denis Villeneuve y su equipo. Aunque solo está presente en las llamadas categorías principales dentro de la categoría Mejor Película, sin embargo sus cruciales aportes técnicos, audiovisuales han sido reconocidos en candidaturas como Mejor Edición, Mejor Maquillaje, Mejor Diseño de Producción y Mejores Efectos Visuales.
La historia de Paul Atreides, joven que debe luchar por sobrevivir a un complot de castas intergaláctico, se basa en la novela de Frank Herbert. “Dune”, que solo ha adaptado la mitad de esta pieza de Herbert, sin embargo se ha llevado una nominación como Mejor Guion Adaptado por la pericia mostrada en las pantallas de cine. ”
Las películas “Belfast”, de Kenneth Branagh; “West Side Story”, de Steven Spielberg, recibieron siete nominaciones cada una.
LA LUCHA POR LA MEJOR ACTUACIÓN
La película “Spencer”, en tanto, dirigida por el chileno Pablo Larraín logró una nominación como Mejor Actriz para el trabajo de Kristen Stewart como Diana de Gales y quien debe durante un fin de semana elegir si se queda o abandona a la familia real. La lucha por el Premio a Mejor Actriz está pelada: Jessica Chastain se transformó para convertirse en una tele-evangelista en “The eyes of Tammy Faye” y Nicole Kidman está irreconocible en “Being The Ricardos”. Penélope Cruz de nuevo está nominada con “Las madres paralelas”, de Pedro Almodóvar y Olivia Colman, ganadora en 2019 por “La favorita”, está vez podría ganar con “The Lost Daughter”, el tremendo debut como directora de Maggie Gyllenhaal.
En la esquina de los actores, los norteamericanos Will Smith (“King Richard”) y Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”) deberían lideran las apuestas. Aunque Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”) y Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”) pueden dar sorpresas. Pero sin duda que la gran sorpresa en este cuadro de honor es Andrew Garfield, cuyo rol para el biopic “Tick, Tick … Boom!” ha coronado un año redondo que incluye “Spiderman: No Way Home”.
LAS SORPRESAS “ESPERABLES”
Dentro de las “sorpresas” esperables de este año destacan la sólida presencia de la película japonesa “Drive My Car”, de Ryusuke Hamaguchi con cuatro nominaciones:
Mejor Película, Mejor Director Directing, Mejor Guion Adaptado y Mejor Película Extranjera. Durante sus tres horas de metraje desarrolla la historia de un actor viudo y su chofer designada durante un festival de teatro. Es una película que estuvo presente en el Festival de Toronto y que se basa en un relato corto del laureado novelista japonés Haruki Murakami.
También dentro de las “predecibles” sorpresas está el excelente desempeño del documental animado “Flee”, de Jonas Poher Rasmussen, que logró entradas como Mejor Documental, como Mejor Película Animada y además como Mejor Película Extranjera.
